Job Description

The Explosives Investigator supports the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s mission to safeguard the Pentagon Facilities. This role provides technical investigative expertise in criminal violations related to federal explosives and arson laws and participates in bomb threat response and explosive ordnance disposal.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison with public safety and fire service personnel.
  • Transport and safeguard explosive evidence and hazardous materials.
  • Conduct post-blast scene investigations and locate IEDs and hazardous materials.
  • Develop bomb threat awareness programs for Pentagon staff.
  • Render safe and remove IEDs, incendiary devices, and explosives.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts and respond to emergency call-outs.
  • Must meet physical fitness standards and wear protective gear as needed.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and sign a mobility agreement.

Qualifications

  • GS-09: Experience with IED identification and disposal.
  • GS-11: Experience with IED disposal and investigative procedures.
  • GS-12: Experience in technical guidance, post-blast investigation, and criminal/terrorist threat analysis.

Education

  • GS-9: Master’s degree or 2 years graduate education may substitute experience.
  • GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree may substitute experience.
  • GS-12: No educational substitution allowed.
