Job Description

Are you ready to trade the classroom for a career that protects and enhances America’s greatest natural treasures? The US Forest Service Internships Program 2026 is actively seeking motivated Students and Recent Grads to join our mission of sustaining the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation’s forests and grasslands. This is not just an internship; it is your official Pathways Program entry point into a rewarding federal career dedicated to natural resources conservation, public service, and scientific research.

The Forest Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), manages 193 million acres of land across the country, providing clean water, recreation, and essential habitat. We are hiring across a diverse range of fields—from traditional Forestry and Ecology to cutting-edge Information Technology and Business Administration—to build the next generation of public lands leaders.

The Pathways Internship Program is designed for current students to gain hands-on experience while completing their education. The Recent Graduates Program offers a full-time, one-to-two-year developmental opportunity for those who have completed their qualifying degree or certificate within the last two years. Successful participants in both programs are eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent US Forest Service position. If you are passionate about environmental stewardship, public safety, and making a lasting impact on your nation’s land, the 2026 program is your chance to launch an exceptional paid internship and career journey. We are a premier federal employer and value dedicated individuals with diverse backgrounds to serve communities across the nation.
