Job Description

We are seeking multiple Associate Lecturers in Electronic Engineering to join the School of Engineering and Innovation at The Open University. This is a hybrid, part-time position, perfect for experienced professionals passionate about teaching in a flexible, online-first environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and forum-based student support, including peer mentoring.
  • Contribute to quality improvement by working with the module team on assessment activities.
  • Grade assignments and offer constructive, accurate feedback in line with marking criteria.
  • Deliver online learning events and, in future, possibly face-to-face at designated learning centres.
  • Support students in applying engineering and mathematics skills with confidence and independence.

Requirements

  • Ability to teach electronic systems combining sensing, logic, control, and communication principles.
  • Capability to teach using online platforms and remote laboratory experiments effectively.
  • Strong understanding of student-centered, flexible, and distance learning methodologies.
  • Interest in teaching engineering mathematics such as Fourier series and Laplace transforms.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in electronic engineering or related discipline.
  • Recent experience in electronic engineering practice and/or teaching.
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCHE) or Fellowship of the HEA (preferred).
  • Higher degree (e.g., Ph.D.), CEng/IEng status, or membership of an engineering institution (advantageous).
